We can offer you continual learning and development opportunities in a fast paced, exciting and ever changing environment. If you haven’t previously considered using your transferable nursing skills to telephone assess /face to face assess patients in an outpatient setting – now is the time to reconsider. . .

The Pre-operative Assessment clinic (POAC) at Musgrove Park Hospital currently assesses circa 14,000 patients a year for fitness for general anaesthetic and surgery. The department currently runs scheduled nurse led telephone assessment clinics, drop in clinics for cancer pathway patients and high risk medical led clinics.

The Pre-operative Assessment clinic is currently undergoing a period of exciting change. The existing team of friendly, dedicated and experienced staff are using improvement methodology to develop our service processes and pathways in line with national best evidence guidance, to meet local demand. We have also developed telephone assessment clinics to meet infection control guidance during and after the COVID 19 Pandemic.

You will be responsible for assessing patients and making decisions on clinical pathways. This will involve liaising with patients and relatives, the core POAC team; and with colleagues across the surgical pathway including the admissions team, the day and inpatient theatres teams, admitting wards, the surgical admissions lounge, specialist nurses, surgeons, GP’s and non clinical teams.

You will also work closely with the POAC Team to support change management strategy and develop and test changes to working practices within the context of the Trust Values of ‘Outstanding Care, Working together, Listening and Leading’.

We are looking to welcome band 5 Staff Nurses to work with the team of Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Administration staff and Consultant Anaesthetists to deliver outstanding patient care. The post holder will undertake clinical duties delivering the highest quality service for patients on a day to day basis.

These positions are full time (37.5 hours per week).

Interviews will be held week commencing 13/07/2020. These interviews may be conducted via Skype to comply with current social distancing guidance.
